- 2-3 bags black tea or 1.5 tbsp loose black tea
- 1 small cinnamon stick
- 3 pods cardamom
- 2 cloves
- 3-4 black peppercorns
- 1 small star anise
- 1 inch piece fresh ginger (sliced or grated)
- 240 ml milk (any type)
- 260 ml water
- Sweetener of choice (sugar, honey, or maple syrup, to taste)
Toast the SpicesPrepare the Base – In a saucepan, add 260ml water, 1 small cinnamon stick, 3 cardamom pods, 2 cloves, 3-4 black peppercorns, 1 small star anise, and 1-inch sliced ginger. Bring to a boil and let it simmer for a few minutes to release the flavors. Add the TeaAdd 1.5 tbsp loose black tea (or 2-3 black tea bags) directly into the saucepan. Let it steep and simmer for a few more minutes to develop a strong chai base. Simmer & InfuseAllow the tea to steep, developing a strong, rich flavor. This will create a dark tea concentrate. Add Milk & SweetenerPour in 240ml milk, bring to a gentle boil, and sweeten with honey or sugar to taste. Strain & ServeStrain the chai into a cup and enjoy warm!
